Thanks Matt for the analysis. Your chart from 1980 to 2013, showing obesity rising with declines in sugar consumption. How much of that do you think is due to increases in Pufa consumption? And what are your thoughts on Cico (calories in calories out); can we speed up our metabolism, eat more while simultaneously reducing body fat, so long as it’s the right foods?
I think most of it is due to high PUFA consumption because this depresses metabolic rate. It can also destroy the delicate cells in the testes and thymus and pancreas, which is a hallmark of aging.
I don't believe calories in, calories out because there is something called futile cycles where energy can be burned up, turned into heat and water vapor and carbon dioxide.
So there are definitely ways of increasing the loss of fat beyond just cutting calories.
Most people think that there is such a thing as a metabolic advantage of ketogenic diets because keto diets tend to cause very quick weight loss.
But in the end keto diets actually will cause a boomerang effect and I've never seen people healthy in the long run with keto diets…maybe due to their raising cortisol levels so much.

Well, I’m definitely not into keto; I do at least 60 to 70% carbs daily. Thanks for the response.
